Founded in 2021 by Stephen Duncan, Dunclare Architects is a family-run architectural practice based in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. The practice is guided by the ethos “Built on Tradition and Place” — a principle that reflects Stephen’s personal connection to the local landscape, heritage and communities, and which is evident throughout the practice’s work.

Originally from Enniskillen, Stephen’s interest in architecture began while working alongside his late father during the development of the family’s holiday park. This early experience gave him a strong appreciation for thoughtful design, quality construction and the positive impact that well-considered development can have on a place.

Stephen joined TODD Architects in 2015 and spent six years working from the practice’s Belfast office as a Project Architect before relocating to its London office. In 2021, he returned home to establish Dunclare Architects and has since developed a growing portfolio of projects across the residential, commercial and tourism sectors throughout Northern Ireland, Ireland and further afield.

Throughout his career, Stephen has worked across a diverse range of projects, from conceptual design competitions to complex construction and delivery programmes. His experience encompasses both contemporary and traditional architecture, supported by a detailed understanding of construction, environmental design and project coordination. Since qualifying, he has gained considerable expertise in technical design and project delivery, contributing to the successful completion of several high-quality and prestigious developments.

In 2020, Stephen was named runner-up for Young Architect of the Year — a proud recognition of his commitment, creativity and contribution to the architectural profession.

Outside the studio, Stephen enjoys an active lifestyle, whether running, playing golf or pursuing his lifelong interest in all things equestrian.
